Nostalgic Postcard

This one wasn't technically sent to me, but Maricruz found it while she was in New York City recently.  Kinda crazy that you can still find postcards on the rack featuring the World Trade Center twin towers.

Using Wi-Fi Analyzer on my phone to check out the networks from my apartment

Definitely have plenty of them!  And perhaps I should think about switching over to channel 1 ;-)

Miami trip!

Man, I have been bad about posting lately.  Things have been pretty busy with wedding plans and research and such.  And outside of that we haven't been up to much that was really worth writing about, until this past weekend!  It had been a long time since MC had been home and she needed to go to take care of some wedding stuff.  So Saturday morning we hit the road, stopped in Gainesville to pick up her sister, then headed on to Miami!  And for perfect timing, we found out on the way down that the A/C broke so we buckled in for a tropical Miami weekend (The Rahamanasauna as I liked to call it ;-)) I wasn't very good about taking pictures.  I don't know what my deal is!  I need to step it up and get back into my crazy picture taking all the time!  Anyhoo.. So we got in and basically hung out with family, let a brief monsoon blow through, then it was time to head out on the town for Juliana's birthday.  We met up with everyone at Sushi Rock (Yelp! review coming soon).  The food was pretty good and it was kinda funny because there were 2 other people in the restaurant who had birthdays and Juliana got a little jumpy each time she heard that music starting.  The third time it started up, she was correct! So after dinner finished, we ventured through the gauntlet of fire (read: normal Miami weather) to a nearby club.  Unfortunately, the DJ had gotten sick so there wasn't a whole lot going on there.  So we caught a cab to another place that was pretty kickin'.  So much so that we had to wait about 30 minutes to get into the club.  Isn't it amazing that these girls can still look beautiful when there is a good likelihood that they were only 3 or 4 degrees from spontaneously combusting? By the time we got in, I was properly pinked from my 30 minute broil but still managed to enjoy myself. :-) The club was only a little cooler, but we still managed to dance around a little bit and have some fun before heading home.  It wasn't too late an evening by Miami standards (I think we got home ~3:30 AM) but since we had left pretty early in the morning and driven 7.5 hours, we were definitely ready to sack out. Sunday MC's dad came over and gathered Julie and Mikey and we all went bowling!  He's pretty super awesome at it, so we all got plenty of pointers and I'm now ready to tear it up next time I go bowling!  Mikey started out MC with bumpers, but it turned out she didn't need them and tore it up!  She even beat me on the first game with this amazing form :-)
I'll admit, it was a little weird bowling without drinking beer, but it was still a good time bowling with the future in-laws. :-) After bowling, the girls went out to do some wedding related stuff while I joined up with Mikey and Sonny for an afternoon of video games.  We went over to Mimi's since they had functioning A/C and ended up getting joined by the ladies and having a fun evening of mingling and games.  It was really nice just to hang out and catch up and relax with the fam. Monday we got up and MC and her mom went to take care of more wedding stuff and once they finished it was time to hit the road back to Tallahassee.  It was definitely not a long trip, but it was a pretty good one.  Hopefully it won't be so long before we can make it back down and I'll have an itchier picture-taking finger :-)

This one is especially cool because the pieces are perforated so you pop them out and build a little statue!

Old School Wakeboarding Pic

I've been thinking of putting together a little "History of Wakeboarding" where I go through different wakeboards and times that I've experienced.  Once I realized that I've been wakeboarding since some of the incoming freshman were about 3 years old, I thought it might be kinda cool to do a little writeup of my experiences with wakeboarding.  In the search for materials I found the issue of Wakeboarding Magazine that I was published in (April 1996) and thought I would go ahead an throw it up.  It tells you a little about the size of the sport that there was a section of the magazine just for reader's photos.  Talk about old school!
