Rhythm and Roots 5k

It was nice to head up to Bristol for a race. The weather is a lot more conducive to running than down in Tallahassee! MC and I were both nursing injuries so we weren't shooting for anything fancy. We were both just happy to be able to run at all! Similar course to a lot of Bristol 5ks, but with smells of festival food luring you to the finish. :-)

Rehab is going well so far

So last week was my first activity week and I actually stuck with it pretty well. My muscles talked to me a little bit, but my ankle seemed to hold up and not really bother me at all, which is really exciting. And the workout extended into a fun weekend as well so let's hope this will help jumpstart some weight loss! As you might have noticed, I've started trying to pick up on sending some random blurbs to my blog from my cell phone, but we will see how long I actually keep it up. It helped that I had a good number of things that I encountered that I felt like sharing. :-) Ok, so here's a weekly breakdown.

Monday I did the lifting I had previously mentioned, then did 1 mile on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the stationary bike.

Tuesday I swam, but ended up only doing 1500 meters because I was a) out of shape and b) sore from lifting the day before.

Wednesday I did similar to monday, but only did 15 minutes on the stationary bike. To help me rebuild my muscles, MC cooked a chicken with blueberry sauce with a side of barley (I believe). She wasn't that big of a fan, but I thought it was really good! I really like trying things that you wouldn't typically think to pair.

Thursday I ended up adding a little lifting (hamstring curl, leg press and calf raise) then did about 28 minutes on the stationary bike.

Friday we left early afternoon to head to Hilton Head. Had a super yummy dinner at the Crazy Crab and even got a little lesson on shucking oysters! We were pretty beat once we got to the condo, so we pretty much watched some TV and hit the sack early.

Saturday I got up bright and early to take the Disco to go get serviced. They gave me a snazzy Range Rover as a loner and I moseyed back to the condo to join MC (I let her sleep in). We grabbed the bikes and rode to Harbor Town and had brunch at the little bakery that was there. I had a breakfast BLT, which was awesome, AND a chocolate filled croissant! We walked around a bit to let the food settle, then hopped back on the bikes to ride back to the condo. We got everything packed up then decided to go ahead and head towards the Land Rover place since we thought she might be fixed up soon. Got a call once we were most of the way there letting us know things were taking a little longer so we kinda moseyed around to burn some time and eventually found our way into a sports bar. Like, one of the most sports oriented sports bars I've ever been to. I don't think any two TVs were showing the same game and within the first minute of being there we had two people ask us what game we were looking for. Food was good and it was a good place to just burn a little time. We then went and picked up the Disco and hit the road to bristol! Mom and dad had some pizza waiting for us and then we just sorta wound down and relaxed.

Sunday we got to fit in the first wakeboard session and I was really stoked that my ankle didn't seem to bother me at all. It is still not a 100%, but it is definitely not too far off. What WAS far off was how in shape I was to go wakeboarding! Taking a couple of months off can really hurt you. It was also cool because we realized that our neighbors had never actually come out on the boat with us when I rode so they joined and I got to try to give them a little show. You know me, always like to have an audience ;-) As far as I remember, the rest of sunday was pretty lazy and relaxing. Lauren came into town in the evening and fixed us all a super yummy dinner including pork with bleu cheese, green beans, and potatoes and it was all very good. Even got to try some Spanish wine to complement everything (since Lauren and Dad are heading to Spain in a couple of weeks). After that it was digesting and relaxing time until it was time to crash.

Woke up early on monday to head to Steele Creek (a local park) for a morning run. MC, Lauren and I are all coming off injuries, so it was pretty casual and the weather was about perfect. (as you can see in one of the previous pictures). It was a nice way to start the day, even if Dad and I were paying some dues from wakeboarding the previous day. We weren't sure how the weather was going to hold up, so dad and I went out to the lake to catch another session and only got rained on a little bit. ;-) Definitely sealed that moving will not be the easiest of tasks in the near future. We had a lot of activity for a "lazy" holiday weekend! Went back to the house, hung out, regouped, then we all went out to the lake. Just stayed at the house and grilled out before heading back to the house to wind down for the night. Got home just in time to watch the FSU-Miami game. MC and I watched most of it, though I will admit I kinda started dozing off with around 8 minutes to go. Before I started getting sleepy I thought we pretty much had it in the bag, but I came to near the end to see the final seconds of our loss count away. I still blame it on the FSU girl that was on national television doing the gator chomp. Geesh.

So yesterday (tuesday) we got up, got everything together, and hit the road back to Tally. It was nice to have the BMW back (especially every time I stopped at the gas pump). MC finally finished reading 1984 and (with mom's awesome suggestion) we burned some hours playing quizzes at Sporcle. All-in-all it really wasn't that bad of a drive, though with every single muscle in my body being extremely unhappy with me, it was nice to finally be home and relax.

Now I know this wasn't all fitness/activity related, but it was close enough to warrant an import and category assignment. ;-)
